Self-Help

As the title implies, the reviews on this page are to help you with various things that we all experience in life. I hope each review is helpful in some way. I look forward to your comments.

"Procrastination Pro" by Charlie Ritchie

If you've ever had a bad habit that you wanted to break, this 21-day program is for you. I have experienced procrastination at times in my own life and having read and practiced this program, it's a great help. It has allowed me to be more focused on all things that I do. No judgments are made during this program. It's interactive and provides activities for the reader to do every day. None of these take very long (about 30 minutes maximum).

Some of the things discussed are why we procrastinate, what do we get out of it, and obviously, ways to change our habits. Even if it takes you more than 21 days, as it did me, you will get many benefits from reading this and doing the exercises.

I wholehearted recommend this program. I actually have kept the notes and the program itself is still downloaded on my computer. My plans are to keep this forever and use it for any other habits that I recognize. As always here's a link and for this I say you can do it.
Stop Procrastinating

"Every Man's Battle" by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker

My husband asked me to read this so as a way to honor him I have. This took me a long time to read because there are parts that were very difficult for me. You see, this is about how men view sex in marriage, which I've never been good at talking about. Specifically, the topic is how Christian men should deal with sex and their marriage.

Believe me, we've had many "discussions" on this topic over our 41 years of marriage. I was always the one that felt I needed to change. Truth is, this book pointed out things to me that I could work on and things that he can and is trying to work on. This is great news for me because since we've both read it, we can refer back to it if necessary. Now I'm not talking about holding something over his head and saying you need to do this or that, but just as a gentle reminder when one of us slips up. (We are human after all and we will slip up.)

Although this book probably took me close to a year to get through because of the topic, I did find it very informative. It not only has the men's point of view in the book but also, from time to time, the wives as well. This proved especially helpful to me because it allowed me to see what Fred's wife and others had experienced and how they continue to work on making their marriage better.

I do recommend this book for both women and men. However, if you are like me and uncomfortable talking or reading about sex in a marriage or any other way like me, then it may take you a long time to get through it as well. Try to keep an open mind while you read it. If you do, I can almost guarantee (almost) that you will learn something from it. Also, remember that this isn't to prove anyone right or wrong, but only as a way of furthering your understanding. I certainly don't want anything to cause disagreements and as always, here's the link if you want to check it out.

Happy reading,

Lyn
